about how to improve WiFi reception
thanks to 1-click Roaming features

Improve WiFi reception boosting WiFi roaming is fundamental to guarantee high levels of connection in congested areas.

Today, more than ever, WiFi users expect to navigate without signal interruptions in airports, train stations, market stores, and other public places with hundreds of square meters of surfaces.

While users are moving, the signal of a single access point can not cover all this distance: there will be a moment when the user will pass from the coverage of a WiFi device to another one. In this moment of passage, the connection has to be guaranteed.

Multiple access points can create WiFi signal overlaps

Deploying business WiFi networks requires careful planning. Past theories and common sense would suggest improving WiFi reception, adding enough APs to cover every square meter with a strong WiFi signal. But this is a typical mistake in WiFi design.

Avoid installing multiple APs to improve WiFi coverage. Multiple overlapping devices can cause signal or co-channel interference.

Co-channel interference caused by multiple overlapping WiFi APs

More APs you will add without a proper WiFi fast roaming configuration, more the overlapping effect will be exponential

WiFi roaming features by Tanaza are the solutions.
Tanaza has integrated three advanced features to improve WiFi reception:
– AP Assisted roaming;
– WiFi Fast roaming;
– Network Assisted Power Savings.

WiFi Fast Roaming
AP assisted roaming
Network Assisted Power Savings

WiFi Fast Roaming – Fast Transitioning Roaming

WiFi Fast Roaming permits seamless connectivity moving between access points. This feature requires WPA2 / WPA2-Enterprise authentication enabled.

When the initial authentication with the first access point is complete, the protocol uses Fast Basic Server Set Transition (FT) to store the encrypted keys of other access points inside the network. We suggest activating this feature to give an improvement to the WiFi end-user roaming experience.

Pros:

  • Reduces the time to authenticate between access points
  • Enhanced performance for latency sensitive applications

AP Assisted Roaming – Radio Resource Measurement (RRM)

AP Assisted Roaming reduces the time required to roam the network allowing the client to quickly determine which wireless device it should roam next and how.

The assisted roaming feature is based on a smart and client-optimized list of neighbor access points. Devices that support this standard send a request to obtain channels and status information about other devices.

The associated AP continues to monitor and collect data about neighboring devices, locating the best alternative solution where the user can find the strongest signal.

AP Assisted Roaming

Network-Assisted Power Savings – Wireless Network Management

Network-Assisted Power Savings allows the WiFi network to influence the devices’ roaming behavior, providing information of nearby access points, optimizing the WiFi transmission and the device’s battery life.

This feature improves WiFi reception thanks to balancing the number of devices connected to a single access point. Network-Assisted Power Savings allows the client device to collect information about nearby access points.

How to improve WiFi reception boosting network roaming

Tanaza is developing more complex networking algorithms to improve WiFi reception through the features explained above.
However, it is always important to remember how to improve WiFi roaming with some practical tips and understand why.

The regulation of cell sizes is propaedeutic to the following WiFi roaming improvement tips.
1) Broadcast the same SSID for both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. In this way, clients can select the best band and band steering WiFi functionality supported by the APs.

about how to boost WiFi signal.

How to boost WiFi Signal is an easy task with Tanaza. Read our easy tips to improve wireless network strength.

Slow internet frustrates us the most when we are doing some important task and are in dire need of fast internet connectivity. In today’s time, WiFi is a utility that is as important as water and electricity, and if you experience a weakened or dropped WiFi connection, it can be quite annoying. WiFi is a fickle thing, and it is very much possible that its speed may vary dramatically from one day to another. It is also expected that sometimes you won’t get the speed promised by your ISP (Internet Service Provider). Several factors influence your WiFi speed, and it will be crucial if you have a brief knowledge about them to avoid such scenarios.

You might want to know how to boost your WiFi signal to get things going quickly with your work. There are several ways by which you can think of boosting your WiFi signal. If your internet is not working at the speed at which it is supposed to, this might be the right time to consider a few upgrades.

How to boost WiFi signal in 7 easy steps

First of all, before considering changing your IP or changing your WiFi access point, it will be good if you try to troubleshoot to diagnose the issue by yourself. Here are the seven easy steps that will show you how to boost your WiFi signal:

1- Run a Speed Test

There are plenty of reasons depicting why you have less WiFi signal, and it’s an excellent way to start with the basics. Run a speed test to see whether you are getting the promised speed by your Internet Service Provider. Your speed will depend on your ISP and your internet plan. To check your internet speed, try speedtest.net or google and type ‘Internet Speed Test’ in the search bar. Check your speed if it is up to the mark, and if not, run the same test with a cable to the router. If after running both tests the result is the same and you are not getting the desired speed, then go to step 2.

2- Reposition/ Relocate your AP to boost WiFi signal

If your access point has passed the speed test, but your WiFi signal is still dropping, it might be because of its poor positioning. You need to place your access point in a location with less interference. Not all places are suitable as materials like metal, wood, plastics, cardboard, and even walls can disrupt a WiFi signal to an extent. The WiFi signal becomes sluggish as they have trouble penetrating the solid materials.

The best place that is considered to put your WiFi is a central location as it will have the best chance to reach the extremities of your site. You can even see a slight boost in your WiFi signal by elevating your access point above the floor level.

It’s a fact that your access point location will affect your WiFi coverage. To have a significant boost in your WiFi signal, you must place your AP in an open space, away from the walls and obstruction. If your AP is placed behind any wall right now, you will see a drastic improvement in your WiFi signal just by changing the location.

Read more about how to improve interference on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz band

3- Update Your AP Firmware

It is one of the crucial things you can check on your access point. The manufacturers always work towards improving the software to get more speed and enhanced signal out from them. If you have updated AP firmware, it will also protect you from the growing number of large-scale malware attacks.

Malware can infect your access point, which can steal its bandwidth and spreads itself across the network to other devices. It is pretty easy to update your access point. Launch your web browser on your computer and connect to your access point’s network. You will get an option of updating your current AP firmware once you log in with the admin username and password. You will easily find the update process in the administration interface, so you need to hit that update button.

However, if you use Tanaza with each firmware update you will benefit from the latest security patches and new and improved features. What’s more, Tanaza allows you to manage all your multi-vendor access points from a single dashboard as well as manage unlimited networks and appoint collaborators to subsets of your networks and organizations. Discover all the features of Tanaza the WiFi cloud management platform.

4- Add an extra WiFi AP to your network

Suppose you are not experiencing any significant boost in your signal after trying the techniques mentioned above. In that case, you might want to consider adding an extra WiFi AP to your network. All-access points are part of a single wireless network and share the same SSID and password, due to which you will remain connected throughout your place. You can also add one or two ‘Extenders.’ WiFi Extenders are small devices that amplify the WiFi signal and extend its coverage. You need to plug in these devices near your WiFi access point so that they receive a solid and reliable signal.

Learn more about how to calculate the number of access points required when deploying a WiFi network.

5- Switch the radio channel and select a less congested channel

Signals from other wireless networks can have a significant impact on speed. Let it be microwaves, cordless telephones, or various electronic devices. There are multiple WiFi channels on which WiFi access points are broadcasted. If you are experiencing a loss in signal, switch the radio signal.

There are two wireless frequencies in WiFi access points. One is 2.4GHz, and the other is 5GHz. Though there are 13-14 channels, we use three non-overlapping channels that are 1, 6, and 11. By default, most of our networks are on channels 1, 6, and 11. Since they are the ones that avoid interference, we use them a lot which is why we get less speed. On the other hand, 5GHz, wireless frequency has 23 non-overlapping channels, so it has more speed but comparatively less range.

The Tanaza platform allows you to monitor and select the radio channel that is not used by many networks in your area. Learn more about how to configure the radio mode channel with Tanaza

6- Check the number of concurrent users within the network

You need to check the number of concurrent users within a particular network or access point. These are the users who are connected within a network or distributed among various APs. Now let us say if there are more users connected to a particular access point, you will feel the lack of signal in your WiFi network.

In such a case, using the ‘Roaming’ concept will be helpful as it can automatically shift users to another AP, which usually has a stronger signal. It will only work in case there are multiple APs set up in a particular workplace.

Learn how to calculate the number of APs you need for the number of concurrent users you plan to give.

7- Check if your device is a legacy device and upgrade your AP with antennas

If your WiFi access point has an internal antenna, adding an external one will significantly help transmit a stronger signal. You can choose between various types of antennas, such as omnidirectional and directional antennas. The omnidirectional antennas are those which send a signal to all directions. The directional antennas, on the other hand, send a signal to only one direction. However, directional antennas are considered a better option as they send a signal in one specific direction. It is better because you might not be experiencing weak spots in your network in every direction. You can improve the WiFi signal by pointing your external antenna in the direction where the signal lacks. Upgrading to an external antenna is a great way to boost your WiFi signal at your workplace without buying an additional access point. If you have tried searching everything on boosting WiFi signal, let us assure you that these seven steps are proven and tested ways of boosting your WiFi signal when you are experiencing slow internet connectivity. Always remember to have an encrypted password-protected Access Point so that only authorized persons use it. Using the latest WiFi technologies will also help prevent the poor signal in your WiFi.

Instead of deploying expensive, non-scalable on-premises solutions or cloud key controller-dependant networks, migrate your customers’ network deployments to the cloud and go peace of mind.

Offer customers seamless network solutions with zero on-site network infrastructure required. This further means no unnecessary wiring and other internet essentials. Deliver a network management service that is centralized and is scalable, managed from anywhere in the world as it’s all in the cloud.

Reasons to invest in cloud WiFi solutions as Tanaza

#Reason 1: 24/7 Monitoring

MSPs need to have resources that allow them to monitor at any time during the day or night. The modern world no longer operates on an office hour schedule; it rathers functions around the clock.

Tanaza enables MSPs to monitor 24/7 WiFi networks’ performance indicators thanks to real-time statistics. It works both at the network and access point level. With Tanaza, MSPs can guarantee their customers 24/7 monitoring with our cloud-based network management platform.

Analyze and track the performance of networks and access points using historical statistics. Furthermore, configure access points and networks proactively based on the data collected over time. Additionally, make adjustments to network-wide configurations based on the number of client devices connected to an SSID, measure bandwidth consumption and WiFi channels distribution for each AP.

#Reason 2: Improved security in the cloud

Since the beginning of COVID-19, there has been a significant increase in the number of data breaches, as the pandemic has forced companies to move their business to remote operations. As such, security has become a significant issue. According to a recent Kaspersky report, over 666 million records containing sensitive information were compromised in 2020.

Businesses now more than ever care about their network security. Tanaza’s communication architecture and protocols have been designed to ensure the highest levels of security and reliability. The traffic coming from client devices and access point management, which passes through a 256-bit SSL encrypted tunnel, are entirely separated for safety.

Furthermore, Tanaza domains are certified, and the platform is hosted on Amazon Web Services to ensure the highest levels of reliability in the market. In addition, Tanaza continuously releases security patches to deliver the latest platform enhancements to keep cyber threats at bay. Read what Tanaza does to prevent a data breach.

#Reason 3: Cloud-based disaster recovery and data backup

As everything is hosted in the cloud, data doesn’t get lost. Data related to network configurations set up by users in the Tanaza dashboard is stored on a Database using Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS). Instead, data specific to network analytics, like devices’ statistics, is saved on No-SQL databases hosted on AWS servers.

Tanaza grants 99.99 % availability. This level of High Availability, or HA, is guaranteed by internal monitoring processes, which include 24×7 failure detection with rapid team response, recovering data up to the latest few minutes.

#Reason 4: Increased efficiency

Tanaza is a centralized management platform with vendor-agnostic capabilities. It allows MSPs to manage multi-vendor WiFi access points from the cloud seamlessly.

Manage an unlimited number of networks and access points from a single platform. Appoint collaborators to specific subsets of networks and organizations with the multi-tenant role-based feature.

The Tanaza Operating System works with the most commercial access point brands and also runs out of the box on selected OEM WiFi access points for a plug-and-play experience. Discover the devices that work with Tanaza

#Reason 5: Cost saving

Tanaza allows you to make substantial savings due to the elimination of expensive hardware controllers in the architecture and reduced on-site maintenance interventions.

Besides, compared to other professional cloud WiFi solutions available in the market, Tanaza’s flexible licensing system allows you to reduce your CAPEX significantly. Tanaza WiFi cloud management is a SaaS that helps you to start managing a few access points and then scale when you need it. Discover Tanaza’s pricing plans.

#Reason 6: Automated IT tasks

  • Schedule WiFi network maintenance to minimize slowness and load peaks after a long uptime.
  • Real time and comprehensive reporting
  • Get an overview of your network’s health status and use historical and real-time data to better understand the performance of your networks.
  • Remotely reboot WiFi access points at a specific hour and weekday.
  • Users can enable email notifications on Tanaza to receive information about the status of the access points in real-time.

#Reason 7: Troubleshooting tools

Tanaza has a set of embedded tools that allows MSPs to troubleshoot networks in the cloud with no need for onsite travels.

Also, with the Tanaza operating system, the access points are not rebooted when a new configuration is applied; also, in multi-SSID environments, the clients are not disconnected from their SSIDs when another one is re-configured.

Discover Tanaza’s Splash Page Editor – No Coding Skills Required

Tanaza’s no-code splash page editor allows you to easily create Wi-Fi landing pages perfectly designed for desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.

Why a splash page can be handy for Guest WiFi

A splash page created according to specific design rules allows you to provide an exclusive web page to guest WiFi users, before accessing the Internet.
At the same time, it is a helpful tool that enables you to obtain from users who connect to a WiFi network contact details like email, name, and more.
Tanaza’s No-Code Splash Page Editor allows you to create a flexible splash page in few clicks.

How to Create a Splash Page for Guest WiFi

Editor functionality overview

Here is a brief overview of the possibilities that the Tanaza No-Code Splash Page editor allows you to create. Respecting the cardinal principles of web design, the splash page is divided into 3 main blocks, editable with paragraphs <h1>, <h2>, <h3>, etc., in full compliance with SEO hierarchy:
– Header
– Body
– Layout

A simplified way to create a perfect splash page in just a few clicks

It is possible to insert texts, images, buttons, and forms within each of these blocks.

It is possible to adjust the size of the spaces of each element with the margin and padding functions, modify the text parameters (including line spacing, font height, style, alignment, etc.) and define the position of the elements within the page thanks to simple directional cursors.

Background, text, and button colors can be configured as classes. This drastically reduces the editing time of multiple elements within multiple splash pages.

For instance, imagine that you want to simultaneously change the same class of color for 20 <h1> or 20 paragraphs of text. Without this exclusive feature, it would be necessary to open 20 different tabs and waste precious time editing every single heading tag or section, with the risk of making mistakes in the color change.

On the other hand, the color assignment function for classes allows users to change the color of all the desired elements belonging to a defined set in one click. Just like a professional web designer would do with CSS code.

No user data collected thanks to click-through login

Tanaza has implemented a new essential privacy feature in its powerful and flexible splash page editor. It’s the click-through login button. Users don’t need anymore to fill out useless authentication forms or create an account to go online. In this way, they can avoid exposing their own personal data.

Tanaza perfectly understands the need to combine high-level technology and elegant design. The click-through login button is 100% personalized: you can set background and text colors, choose the margin style, increase or decrease the size dimensions of the button, testing infinity ways of creativity.

WiFi voucher login to control the Guest WiFi Experience

Tanaza has implemented also a new feature to control the Guest WiFi Experience: the WiFi Voucher Login. The WiFi Voucher login allows the user to go online by providing a predefined voucher code through the splash page editor. They are valid for every on any desired splash page.

Complete control of the final result in multiple resolutions

When the splash page is almost ready, it is essential to check multiple resolutions to ensure that each design element is displayed correctly on PCs, tablets, and smartphones.

The preview function allows users to preview the final result on multiple resolutions so users can adapt the layout in real-time.
